Marinara Sauce

Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook time: 15 minutes Serves: 2

This marinara sauce has been a favorite for years! We, of course, absolutely love garlic, but one evening when we were lacking in red wine, we had the idea to pour in some soy sauce. Yes, soy sauce! Remarkably, this turned out to be a great idea: This marina sauce tastes amazing!

Alex: I used to prepare this sauce before landlords and other important guests came over, just to help set the ambiance.

Ingredients

  • 28 oz tomato sauce
  • 6 large cloves peeled garlic (or 10 if using pre-peeled garlic)
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil (or lots of fresh basil!)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric (for its nutritional value)
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients into food processor and process on high.
  2. Pour into sauce pan and cook on medium-low heat until it begins to thicken.
  3. Enjoy!
